West End's campaigning Councillor, Judy Douch
Surrey Heath Lib Dem Councillor, Judy Douch has welcomed new speed limits that are to be imposed on the A319 Bagshot Road in West End. These are expected to be in place by the end of June, after a campaign lasting several years.
Councillor Douch, who represents West End, said: "I am very cynical that it has taken over 25 accidents and two deaths for the road signs to be approved. Representations have been made over four or five years to the County Council to have something done about the speed limit and only now has action been taken."
She continued:" Whilst we welcome the proposed 40mph restrictions, I, along with West End Parish Council would have liked a 30mph limit through the village as well, especially in the vicinity of Gordon's School. However this request was not supported by the County Council who said that it was not part of its traffic management policy."
Between 2001 and 2003, there were 24 reported collisions on the A319 and three accidents at the A322/A319 Gordon's roundabout. Fatal accidents occurred in November, 2003, and recently on February 20th this year.
