The Liberal Democrats in Surrey have launched their manifesto for the County Council elections on May 5th. The manifesto includes the Liberal Democrat "Programme of Action" for Surrey from 2005 to 2009 and highlights their "Top Ten" priorities for action to improve services for Surrey residents.
The Lib Dem "Top Ten" Priorities for Surrey are:
1. Improve the condition of the roads and footways.
2. Provide more activities for young people
3. Protect school budgets and invest in early support for pupils who need it.
4. Improve public transport to reduce traffic congestion.
5. Promote more affordable and key worker housing.
6. Encourage reduction and recycling of waste.
7. Oppose sell off and closure of libraries.
8. Oppose government plans to remove the right to free school transport.
9. Increase support for carers.
10. Tackle anti-social behaviour.
And one more! - Involve local people in the Council's decision-making process.
Guildford's Lib Dem M.P. Sue Doughty said: "The Liberal Democrats have listened to Surrey's residents, prioritised those services most in need of improvement and identified how these services could be funded by making substantial savings in wasted spending by the County Council."
Councillor Hazel Watson, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Surrey County Council said: "It is time for change at County Hall. The Liberal Democrats offer residents improved services, better value for money and cutting out wasteful spending by the Council."
