Free Uniforms Breach Tories own Budget Rules!

Apologies to Market Stall Holders!

Readers of 25th August issue of The Star local free newspaper might well conclude that the Conservative Executive at Surrey Heath Borough Council is not fit to run a market stall, let alone a Borough Council!

On page 11 Moira Gibson, the Leader of the Council, warns that Council Tax will rise heavily next year or services will have to be cut. Then, on page 36 readers will have seen the decision taken by Cllr Gibson and her colleagues to waste nearly £9,000 on uniforms for members of Council staff to wear in the new Contact Centre!

Even for Surrey Heath Conservatives, the inconsistency of these two stories is mind blowing.

It is even more astounding considering that the decision to spend Council Tax payers money on the uniforms is in complete breach of the Executive's own budget guidelines. The decision also follows well-documented stories in the local press about the poor state of both the Planning and Benefits Sections at the Council, both of which could use the resources being wasted on new clothes!

Apologies, incidentally, to any local market stall holders who we are sure would do a far better job of running the Council than the current bunch of Conservative Councillors!
