The Wilton Road Civic Amenity Site will close on April 3rd and will not reopen until September. Residents who need to dispose of bulky household rubbish are being directed to Farnham & Guildford, rather than to more local sites.
Wilton Road Civic Amenity Site: Closing on April 3rd
The Wilton Road site in Camberley is a heavily used recycling and household waste disposal site that is located just off the Frimley Road where it intersects with Park Road. Surrey County Council have stated that a publicity campaign will be used to inform residents of the closure, which is being done in order to remodel the site.
Posters at the site redirect residents to the sites at Moorfield Road, Guildford and Bourne Mill, Farnham. However, Lib Dem Councillors have questioned why residents are not being told about nearer sites. In particular, other sites exist at:
· Eelmoor Road, Farnborough
· Longshot Lane, Bracknell,
· Martyrs Lane, Woking
· Swift Lane, Bagshot (small site)
Cllr Bob Smith said: "I am concerned that the County Council has been very tardy in telling people about this closure. April 3rd is a matter of weeks away, and there is little evidence of this publicity campaign so far. The idea of telling people to drive to Guildford to recycle is also ludicrous. For the sake of the environment, it is important that people are told of the site nearest to them, even if that happens to lie over a county boundary."
