Local Campaigner Denise Smith
Local Liberal Democrats have picked popular and experienced local campaigner Denise Smith to fight the Ash by-election to Surrey County Council on Friday 28th July.
Denise has pledged to make her top priorities campaigning for the environment and fighting the Tories' waste of our money. Denise explained, "It is vital for everyone that we protect our environment and the County Council has not achieved this. The Draft Waste Plan that the Tories voted through is seriously flawed. They are putting far too much emphasis on incineration and not enough on alternative treatments for residual waste or recycling."
Denise is also concerned about the amount of money that is wasted by the County Council. She told Focus, "Millions of pounds of our money is being wasted.
"The Tories spent some £4.62million on plans to move their offices from Kingston to Woking, which then fell through. They have wasted millions more on outside consultants and agency staff due to poor recruitment and retention policies. We could do so much for our local area
with the money that has been wasted.
"Local people feel the Tories take Ash for granted and want to send them a message."
