Lib Dem Councillor for Heatherside, Fran Bennie, is keen to support the provision of youth sports facilities locally. However, she believes that local residents should have been consulted before the proposal was considered by the Council.

Cllr Fran Bennie told Focus: "I would like to make it clear that I personally support this project. We do need more facilities for sports and youth activity on Heatherside. However, the siting, maintenance, design and potential impact of any facility on local residents needs to be fully considered before this proposal is taken further. I would like the Councillors and Officers making the decisions to be aware of all these issues and fully consult and inform the residents of Heatherside before taking any decisions on this. I asked a formal question at a Full Council meeting only 8 months ago regarding the possibility of increased sports facilities on Heatherside and was told that there was no budget available for such a scheme. I wrongly assumed that if the situation changed I would have been informed. I am now embarking on a full scale consultation with the residents of Heatherside on this issue."
