FORMER OLD DEAN COUNCILLOR JOINS LIB DEMS

Cllr Duncan Clark welcomes Fay Story to the Liberal Democrats

Former Old Dean Councillor, Fay Storey, has left the Conservative Party and joined the Liberal Democrats.

Fay, formerly a Conservative Borough Councillor for the Old Dean, said "Having spent time with the local Liberal Democrats I am convinced they are today's 'party of the people' and urge people to vote Lib Dem and kick the Tories out of Surrey Heath on May 3rd next year."

"I have served the Old Dean as a Labour and Conservative Councillor. When I became disillusioned with Labours national policies, the obvious place to go seemed to be the Conservatives. However, after joining them I was appalled at the way the local party treated their previous MP, Nick Hawkins, by deselecting him. The arrogance and back-biting was unbelievable!"

"I have experienced a political journey that not many people have made - and I am so glad that I have now found my home with the Liberal Democrats. Their commitment to the environment, tackling crime and anti social behaviour and providing a powerful opposition to our Conservative Council has impressed me. I know many people will make light of my changing political parties, but I don't care. I am really happy with my decision and look forward to fighting for my local community".

Cllr Duncan Clark, the Lib Dems' Parliamentary Spokesman for Surrey Heath said "We are very pleased to welcome Fay to the Lib Dems. The Tories both locally and nationally have shown themselves to be 'all talk and no delivery'. The independent Audit Commission rates Surrey Heath Council the worst in Surrey. Regular readers of the Camberley News will know of the backlogs at the Planning and Benefits Departments caused by the poor management of the Conservative Executive. Meanwhile they have over-spent on the new Contact Centre, and the Green Waste collection scheme looks like being another disaster before it's even started. Nationally, the Tories are trying to give themselves a more caring, competent image but you've only got to scratch the surface and it's still the same bad old Party it always was."
