Cllrs Fran Bennie and Bob Smith promoting Fairtrade at Heatherside Xmas Fayre
The campaign to make Camberley a Fairtrade town is gathering momentum. Community leaders in Surrey Heath are also declaring their support for the campaign, with representatives from the Camberley Society, Surrey Chambers of Commerce and Surrey Heath churches speaking out in favour. Assistance has been offered from the Islamic Centre in Camberley, and invitations to speak in local schools are coming in.
Lib Dem Cllrs Fran Bennie and Bob Smith were publicisiing the campaign by running at a "Fairtrade Tombola" at the Heatherside Christmas Fayre held at the Community Centre in the run up to Christmas. Bob Smith has also addressed a Trade Justice meeting on the subject of Fairtrade at Frimley Parish Hall.
Bob Smith speaks on Fairtrade at Frimley Parish Hall
Cllr Bob Smith is appealling to community organisations who are organising events in the last two weeks of February to assist in the publicising of "Fairtrade Fortnight", when there will be events on Fairtrade up and down the country. Last year over 10,000 events were organised. "We would be very grateful for invitations to participate in events that are going to be held during this period. We would be happy to provide the Fairtrade materials, a stall or just a speaker for your event" said Cllr Smith.
If you would like to support the campaign, please sign the petition to be found on our website. If you can spare a little time to assist the campaign, please contact Bob Smith on 07764 155 731.
