Cllr Duncan Clark is leading the local Lib Dem campaign to protect our NHS
Local people have thrown their weight behind the campaign to save services across Surrey's Hospitals. This follows the announcement that Surrey Primary Care Trust is reviewing the future of NHS services in our area.
Liberal Democrats across Surrey are concerned about the impact this will have on acute services provided by our hospitals. Locally, 'all bets are off' as to whether Frimley Park Hospital, St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey or the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford will face major changes in the services they provide.
Some commentators believe that an A&E Department is likely to be closed at either Chertsey or Guildford. Any closure of A&E services will place greater pressure on our local hospital, Frimley Park.
Cllr Duncan Clark said "The Labour Government has left the NHS with a serious shortfall in funding across Surrey, despite providing extra resources nationally. On average, residents of Surrey receive 15% less per person for health care than those living in Hampshire. Tony Blair's health policies mean that our hospitals could be closed, forcing patients to travel long distances for treatment. In emergency situations lives could be put at risk."
The Liberal Democrats 'Save Surrey's NHS' campaign will last through much of this year. It is expected that Surrey PCT will announce its formal consultation period into its plans in early Spring. If you would like to find out more, please register to receive our regular email updates.
