Both Labour and the Conservatives have failed Britain when it comes to tackling crime
Cllr Duncan Clark writes: "Like many local people, the Lib Dems are very concerned about high levels of crime and anti- social behaviour in our country. Too many people live in fear of crime and are worried to go out after dark. Many ordinary people are having their lives ruined by anti-social behaviour."
"It's just not good enough. I believe it is time we took real action to cut crime. We've had ten years of a Labour Government talking tough, but failing to act. Violent crime has doubled and conviction rates have never been lower. Before that we had a tough talking Conservative Government that cut the number of police!"
"It is clear we need action not just tough talk. That's why the Lib Dems have launched a new
campaign to make Britain a safer place to live. Our campaign isn't about tough talk, it is about delivering practical, commonsense action to make our streets safer."
"We need to take back our streets and town centres. I believe we need more police on patrol, especially after dark. We need to free up police time from unnecessary paperwork. We shouldn't be spending billions of pounds on compulsory ID cards for innocent law abiding citizens, when that money could be better spent targeting criminals."
"We need a prison system that works. Too often dangerous criminals are released early onto
Together we can tackle crime and anti social behviour
our streets to offend again. A life sentence should mean life. Prisoners should be made to work
to pay compensation to their victims, and to cut re-offending."
"We need local action. Local Lib Dems believe that our Council needs to start tackling anti social behaviour. We want to introduce Community Wardens who can help keep our neighbourhoods safe."
"The Lib Dems are serious about cutting crime. Please help our campaign by signing and returning the enclosed petition. Together we can make our area a safer place to live."
The Liberal Democrats are conducting a major crime survey in our area - we really want to hear your views and experiences. For more information on this and on practical measures to make your home safer, please visit our website at www.wecancutcrime.com.
