Cllr Meurig Williams, Cllr Bryan Ward and Paul Hutchinson check out recycling in Bagshot
Surrey Heath Liberal Democrats have been busy over the past few weeks, delivering 20,000 survey forms to households across the Surrey Heath Borough Council area.
This survey comes at a time of growing interest by residents in recycling. Many local residents are frustrated that our Conservative-run Council has not been more active in this area.
At a recent Council meeting it became clear that Conservative - run Surrey Heath Borough Council would consider the introduction of Alternate Weekly Collection (AWC) for household and recyclable waste from 2009. However, there has been no consultation with residents on this matter!
The contract for the collection of waste in Surrey Heath is due to be reviewed by the Borough Council over the next 18 months. Liberal Democrat Councillors believe that this is an excellent opportunity to provide Surrey Heath residents with an improved recycling service. However, first of all local residents must be asked for their views so that any discussion on this matter can take their views into account.
The recycling survey is being carried out to find out the type of collection service that residents would like to see here in Surrey Heath. Liberal Democrats are committed to tackling this issue, but unlike the Conservatives, would like to know residents' views on how this should be done BEFORE any decisions are taken.
