Recycling and household waste survey - the results so far!

April 14, 2007 10:43 AM

Thanks to everyone who has returned their survey so far - the response has been massive!

One thing is clear, local residents are demanding a proper doorstep recycling collection service. This is something that your Liberal Democrat Councillors are committed to delivering.

We will use the findings from this survey to help further inform the debate on how we should improve our local waste collection services.

The main questions asked were:

A) Options for Household Waste and Recyclable Waste Collection:

1) No Change - continue with black sacks for domestic waste plus newspaper and tin collection in old carrier bags.

Graph12) Alternate Weekly Collection (AWC) - using wheeled bins - domestic waste collected in 'week 1' and dry recyclable (paper, card, plastic, glass, tins) material collected in 'week 2'.

3) Weekly Collection - using wheeled bin for domestic waste, plus provision of a weekly collection of recyclables by using a box system or wheeled bin.

Graphs2B) Options for Garden Waste Collection:

The recently introduced Garden Waste Club has been criticised for being too expensive. We would like to know what you think should be done.

1) Continuation of current wheeled bin green waste club.

2) Continuation of current wheeled bin green waste club plus re-introduce non reusable garden sack scheme for low level users.

3) Cancel Green Waste Club and revert to non reusable garden sack scheme.

4) New garden waste scheme - use of reusable heavy duty garden waste sacks.

Graphs35) Do you think this service should be subsidised? Yes No

C) Options for Recycling Sites:

Which of the following statements do you agree with:

Graphs41) The Council should keep the current number of recycling sites as they are - we do not need anymore.

2) The Council should provide more recycling sites across our area.

3) The Liberal Democrats have been campaigning to make our Council take better care of our recycling sites (these are not the civic amenity sites at Swift Lane and Wilton Road which are run by the County Council, but the local bottle banks etc) - and to keep them neat and tidy. How would you rate the sites which you have visited recently:

Graph 6Excellent? Good? Poor? Very Bad?
