Local campaigners Judy Douch and Patricia Pinder survey the huge amount of waste we still throw away
A Lib Dem survey shows there is high demand for a full kerbside collection service of recyclables in Surrey Heath.
Over 2,500 residents completed the survey earlier this year and 63% said they wanted a better collection service. 50% wanted a weekly recyclables collection and 13% an alternate weekly service. 37% wanted 'no change' in the service.
The government has set a recycling target of 40% by 2010 which Surrey Heath will be very unlikely to meet. If it does not, ratepayers may have to foot the bill as the Council could be fined or pay more in Landfill Tax.
The Council's current waste collection contract expires in 2009 and local Lib Dems are pressing the Conservative Council to introduce a much better service in consultation with local ratepayers who should be made aware of ALL the cost implications of each option.
