"The Conservatives on Surrey Heath Borough Council are pressing ahead with their proposals to introduce charges for some car parks in Bagshot, Chobham, Watchetts Road in Camberley and Burrell Road in Frimley. They do not explain why these car parks have been selected whilst others, including those in the Council run parks, have not - but then consistency of approach was never a strength of Tories in Surrey Heath!
The charges are being introduced despite opposition from from 204 people and a petition containing 580 signatures which, according to the paper considered by the Tory Executive, 'have been rejected'. The same paper makes it clear that the reason for introducing the charges is because car parks in Camberley Town Centre are in steady decline. So it seems the 'outlying' areas of the Borough are being punished by the Tory administration for their failure to increase usage of Camberley Town Centre car parks!
A local business man presented the petition to the Full Council on 18th February suggesting some limited reductions in the charging periods in the Camberley off-street car parks but the paper considered by the Conservatives states that 'This issue will be the subject of a separate report to a future Executive meeting.'
Why on earth can't all the issues be considered at the same time by the Tory run Executive?!"
